Nature Awareness Retreats & Vigils

Any young adult who seeks vision and connection to God through and encounter with the Holy Spirit in a natural setting is invited to participate in this special retreats.

The Chaplain, Roger Wharton, is a trained wilderness guide and a member of the National Wilderness Guides Council. He has directed camps, taught in outdoor education schools, lead wilderness trips in Alaska, and has advanced degrees in spirituality and the Christian Nature Wisdom Tradition. Roger especially enjoys introducing people to the spirituality of nature and opening doors to enable them to hear the Creator speaking to them through the natural world.

The combination of being in the outdoors and eating limited food provides the opportunity to slow down and listen to the Creator. You will be introduced to various forms of prayer and meditation and taught techniques of nature awareness that assist in bringing you into communion with Creation.

We will be doing simple camping on a private nature preserve. A maximum of one half mile of hiking and backpacking will be required. Equipment can be provided if you do not have gear. You will sleep individually in tents and have the opportunity to spend solo time alone in your sacred place open to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. After your time alone we will come back together to process and integrate your experience.

Folks with no camping experience are capable of participating in this retreat. To find out more contact the chaplain by e-mail or phone 408-605-1687.
